Driving on the Temburong Bridge
As previously introduced in "Travel to Brunei Part 4", I will again share with you the actual situation in the local area, divided into several parts as the "Brunei Scenery Series".
This bridge connecting the mainland of Brunei and the Temburong district is commonly known as the Temburong Bridge. Its real name is “Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge”, named in honor of Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan and the father of the current Prime Minister of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.
The bridge spans Brunei Bay, making it the longest bridge in Southeast Asia at a total length of 30 kilometers. It is the only domestic road bridge that directly connects the Temburong district, which is separated by Malaysia and Brunei Bay, to the mainland, with construction starting in 2014 and opening on March 17, 2020, delayed from the original schedule due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The enclave Temburong district
Now, let's explore the bridge together.
This time, we crossed during the daytime, but the sunset view from the bridge is spectacular.
From the boat, the view of the bridge looks like this. It truly is impressive in length.
Crossing the long Temburong Bridge, you are welcomed by the rich nature of the Temburong district.
The entrance to the jungle
Temburong is located at the easternmost part of Brunei and has the Ulu Temburong National Park in its southern part, covering 550 km² of forested area. Additionally, much of the Temburong district is covered with virgin forest, leveraging its bountiful natural environment to develop ecotourism. The biodiversity here is among the world's finest, making this rich natural environment a significant attraction of Brunei.
In the next post, I will bring you the sights of the jungle tour in the national park that stretches beyond the Temburong Bridge.
