Utilizing small EVs and IT technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during travel to zero

Zenmov Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Kiyoshi Tanaka) and Koza MORI Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kushimoto Town, Wakayama Prefecture, Representative: Naoya Sakamoto) have jointly conducted a social proof of the "Zero Travel" service, which aims to eliminate CO2 emissions while traveling in electric vehicles (hereinafter referred to as EVs), in Kushimoto Town. This proof of concept started on May 19 at the Kushimoto Hashikuiiwa roadside station and was conducted for 10 days until May 28.

“Zero Travel” is an initiative that utilizes blockchain technology to allocate environmental value generated from solar power in remote areas to the EVs in real-time, thereby completely reducing carbon dioxide emissions to zero during EV operation.

In the proof of concept in Kushimoto Town, our company provided the vehicle body and management system, while Koza MORI Co., Ltd. managed its operation as a company vehicle. Through the 10-day initiative, we successfully achieved a reduction of 48.46 kg of CO2.

Zenmov Co., Ltd. also participated in the "Zero Travel" proof project in March 2021. By utilizing fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), CO2 reductions of 14 kg were confirmed during a round trip of 200 km between Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Hakone Town. In this initiative, the SMOC (Smart Mobility Operation Cloud) provided by Zenmov Co., Ltd. was utilized for real-time travel measurements of the FCVs. Zenmov Co., Ltd. and Koza MORI Co., Ltd. are promoting "Zero Travel," which aims to make all aspects of travel zero-emission, using this complete zero-emission mechanism during travel. Wakayama Prefecture, awarded in the sustainability category in the readers' vote of Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2021 among many renowned tourist destinations worldwide, can be said to be a symbolic location that should lead the way in spreading "Zero Travel," which should become the infrastructure for new tourism in the decarbonization era. We will continue to pursue carbon-free transportation methods in the area.
